Tips for Optimizing your PPC Advertising Campaigns

  1. Use conversion tracking. To make better decisions you need data. Add a snippet of code to your site and turn on conversion tracking to see which campaigns or keywords result in leads or sales.

  2. Send users to the correct page. Sending everyone to your homepage is like telling someone you live in Los Angeles when they asked for your address. The correct page on your site needs to match the keyword search term. Searches for "kayaks" should take them to a page where you sell kayaks.

  3. Use negative keywords. Negative keywords remove search results containing that term so your ad doesn't show for those keywords. Result: Better responses and lower cost-per-click (CPC). If you sell apparel, but don't sell men's shirts? Add the negative keyword "men's". Your ad won't show to anyone who searches for "men's shirts."

  4. Have a strong call-to-action. Tell the user exactly what you expect them to do next. Short phrases like 'Free Consultation', 'Sign-up NOW!' or 'Order' are all examples of a good call-to-action.

  5. Test your ad. Not sure which ad is best? Write two or three ads with different text and call-to-action. You can find out which brings in the most traffic. Generally, the most effective ad is automatically used.
